Friday April 13 7:30pm
United Methodist Church film: Chasing Freedom www.courttv.com/freedom/ Geri and Charlie Mulligan will be talking about
Immigration Detention: what it is, the system, the conditions, the way
it oppresses and what we can do about it.
meeting notes:
There were 17 people Diane Beeny's film selection Peaceable Kingdom
last night. We brought in $47, $25 of which funded Diane's generous
vegan groaning board. We had a near-disaster: the film was VHS, not DVD. Diane rushed home and brought back a VCR.
(TGF acronyms! I am a slow typist!) We started off the film late, but everyone seemed to be enjoying the food and new acquaintances.
We had to cut our business meeting very short. We have a proposal by a
Pampered Chef representative to do a presentation, a cooking lesson,
(with a sales pitch for Pampered Chef Products) for which the Peace
Council would receive 10% of the final sales. I see some potential to
make a little money on this. A little. LET ME KNOW WHAT
YOU THINK.
This Wednesday March 29, 9:30 AM I will meet with the Union County Parks
Department environmental specialist Betty Ann Kelly at Mc Connell
Park. I brought waivers with me last night for people who want to get involved in the labor of maintaining a county park
to sign. I didn't get around to presenting the park adoption to our
audience or core members. I'm thinking an arbor day or earth day clean-up, and i'm thinking we might be able to use this park for some of our events.
LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK.
I still have not walked the flyers for the scholarship over to
the Elizabeth Campus of UCC. I plan to do that on Wednesday. I
distributed flyers to 350 teachers in Cranford. Only 2 responded. I
sent copies to the President, Vice Presidents, Alumni Association, I
brought flyers to the Student Government Office, which I never saw hung.
I wrote a letter to the college newspaper. no response. We have had
no submissions yet and there still has been no press release. I DO NOT WRITE PRESS RELEASES. we are still looking to get a free donated laptop for diane, a
family night, a presentation on domestic violence, a day at the UN, a
visit to the Tibetan museum, and donations for the troops. I am
attaching a flyer for April 13's presentation on Immigration.
Are people afraid to talk about peace? I'm beginning to think at once, yes and no.
On suggestion for a trial, I left off our logo and the big words UNION COUNTY PEACE COUNCIL. We
will take note on whether we attract more people with these flyers.
please open and print and distribute widely and forward. thank you!
